As a form of attention to improve the quality of education, PT. Kaltim Methanol Industry (KMI) strives to actively improve the quality of education, especially private schools in Loktuan Village, North Bontang District who received less attention from various parties. On the other hand, the existence of the school has a high urgency by holding children with poor economy households.
As PT KMI’s commitment to overcome the marginalization of education, in 2016 PT. KMI cooperating with PKPU Human Initiative launched pilot project tutoring program for 150 grade 6 elementary school students in 4 schools; Elementary School Immanuael, YPL, Elementary School Nurul Iman and Elementary School Nurul Fattah.
Through this program, 100% of a total 150 students can graduate and got accepted in public schools with the opportunity to get educational with good quality and low-cost (free).
In 2018 and 2019 with a full support by the Bontang City Education Bureau, PT. KMI encouraged the improvement of teacher quality, especially in the North Bontang, with the 2013 curriculum workshop to 59 elementary school teachers. This program provides competency support for teachers to master learning methods and manage classes in order to improve the quality of learning in their respective schools.
In 2019 and 2020 PT. KMI again initiated support programs for elementary teachers with the development of literacy capabilities through writing workshops followed by 60 elementary teachers in Loktuan and Guntung, North Bontang. This workshop is expected to maximize the creative potential of teachers to develop learning methods in the classroom and encourage teachers to be able to channel the literacy skills to students. From this program, a book was produced by the participants with title "Growing the Character of Through School Literacy Movement"
