The reclamation and rehabilitation of the Bontang Methanol Park is the result of a collaboration between PT Kaltim Methanol Industri (PT KMI) and Gadjah Mada University. This activity was initiated in 2015, then the first planting was carried out at the end of 2016.
In the course of the reclamation and rehabilitation of the Methanol Park, at first, various obstacles were encountered so that the success of the plants was not encouraging. The condition of critical land in the Methanol park is very specific, typical for that location. Over time, the causes of these obstacles can be identified and can begin to be overcome. So that the success of planting has increased significantly.
This success, which began to look encouraging, certainly did not happen immediately. Many lessons continue to be explored to solve problems that arise. The valuable lessons learned in this reclamation and rehabilitation activity will be useful for the general public if they are documented in a written form. This is the reason that underlies us to write technical instructions or SOPs for reclamation and rehabilitation activities at the Bontang Methanol Park.
