Waste Bank

PT Kaltim Methanol Industri, through its CSR Program, facilitate its partner in handling waste. With the efforts to preserve and maintain the environment so that it is free from waste by processing waste with 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). The 3R concept encourages people to handle waste from its source such as waste sorting and encouraging the application of the concept of utilizing waste that has economic value.

As the first step of the program, PT KMI has done collecting the waste that will be recycled into polybags and will be sold to PT KMI’s community development partner, Mekar Harum, to grow their plants in Rumah Sayur (Greenhouse). The company also collecting organic waste that are generated from leaf and food waste in the plant site area. Every day, a total of 410 m3 of organic waste was obtained to be processed and become a compost. The usage of this compost will be for fertilizing plants around the plant site and for PT KMI’s community development partner, Mekar Harum’s plants in Rumah Sayur (Greenhouse) that grew ginger.

With this program, PT KMI aims to help in solving waste problems, helping the community to improve their economy, and increase children’s awareness to their environment with education. Aside that, through this program, it is hoped that KMI can contribute to the government’s goal of achieving point 12 of the SDGs, which is Responsible Consumption and Production as well as point 13, which is the Climate Action. Aside from that, this program will also contribute in achieving point 4, Quality Education, through its environment education to children.
